Lampton Street Church of Christ Minister & Evangelist

Harvey Millsap Jackson, had a humble beginning as the son of a Mississippi plantation sharecropper. His early years working in the Delta cotton fields instilled within him a lifestyle of discipline and tenacity. Growing up in a family of fourteen taught him virtues of caring, sharing, and mentoring. He began preaching at the age of fourteen. Since 1967, he has devoutly served as Minister/Evangelist of the Lampton Street Church of Christ, Mound Bayou, Mississippi. His stewardship in the field of evangelism has led thousand to the water of baptism over 57 years of preaching. His eloquent speech and strong leadership abilities have gained national and international pulpit acclamations which include – 38 American states including the humbling experience of preaching at the renowned Apollo in Harlem, New York; Internationally, Jerusalem, Caesarea Philippi, Canada, Nassau Bahamas, Montego Bay, Jamaica, Capernaum, and St. Thomas. His ministry has influenced over thirty preachers.

 His desire to mount up from his sociological surroundings and expand his educational boundaries led him to enroll in institutions of higher learning, which includes Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena; Mississippi; Delta State University, Cleveland, Mississippi; University of Miami, Coral Gable, Florida; United Bible College, Orlando, Florida; California Coast University, Santa Ana, California; Reform Theological Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi; and University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississippi where he has received a number of degrees over the years. He is licensed in the State of Mississippi as a secondary educator and school counselor. He holds terminal degrees in Theology and Developmental Psychology. 

His quest for professional experiences lead him to serve as an associate professor of psychology in the College of Education at Mississippi Valley State University. Prior to this he served as middle and secondary school teachers in Cleveland and Coahoma County, Mississippi; Vocational Counselor and Assistant Principal in the Cleveland School District; Director of Mental Health Services and Job Placement for Ex-offenders at the Mississippi Department of Corrections; and Director of Upward Bound/Trio Programs at Mississippi Valley State University.



His community outreach and passions include: Past President of the Mississippi Valley State University National Alumni Association; President of Mississippi State Lectureship for the Churches of Christ; Mental Health Consultant for the Leflore County Headstart Program; and President of the Mississippi Valley State University Omega Beta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, Incorporated and Phi Delta Kappa, both an International Honor Societies in Education: Founder and President of the Mississippi Delta Bible Institute in Mound Bayou, Mississippi President of the Cleveland District School Board; National Coordinator of the W.F. Washington Ministers Theological Institute, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Founder of the first Bolivar County, Mississippi Boys and Girls Club; Member of the National School Board Association; Member of the Beta Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; Member of the Mississippi Council to Save Historically Black Colleges; Member of the Mississippi Valley State University Foundation Board. His accolades include Member of NCATE and SACS accreditation team on Teacher Education; Outstanding Men in America, 1980; Minister of the Year, Southwestern Christian College, Terrell, Texas, 1981; Recipient of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Community Service Award, 1989; Recipient of the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education Award for exemplary service to Historically Black Universities and Colleges, 1997; Who’s Who in Executive and Professionals, 2000-2001; Who’s Who in V.I.P. Professionals, 2004-2005 and Mississippi Valley State University College of Education Dean Award, 2006.

 Dr. Jackson is married to his high school sweetheart, Linda K. Lee of Merigold, Mississippi. They are the parents of three children: Kimberly, KeAndrea, and Kendedrick and six grandchildren – Kamarion Markell, Zakylia Simone, Draden Terrance, Zemira Joycelyn, Kihari Kennae and Khari Rashard
